BOTOX is the botulinum toxin, a protein, which is injected into the muscles of the face to improve the appearance of frown lines and furrow lines in the brow area. BOTOX has exploded in popularity since it first came on the market a few years ago and since then over 10 million BOTOX procedures have been administered in the United States alone. This popular procedure works by intercepting the impulses of the nerves in the muscles which were treated, which limits the activity that caused the lines to form. These infographics refer to the proprietary Botox product by Allergan. Dysport, or abobotulinum toxin A, is another neurotoxin product that is often used in place of Botox, but can be much cheaper. Dysport is also used in different dilutions to Botox, so the number of units needed for each procedure may vary.
